While performing Variations on Fear I met another actor, Jesse Baxter, who was just starting to have a crazy idea about actors going to Africa… that’s when my life officially became one planet-sized Dramatic Adventure.

In the summer of 2007, Jesse and I organized a trip for 3 actors and 1 director to Zimbabwe. We traveled all over the country collecting stories, teaching theatre skills and learning about the country. Our play, Voices from Zimbabwe, encompasses 90% of actual writings by Zimbabwean children. We have since developed the format for III ACTS: the playwrights project, and The Bulawayo Young Company - unfortunately, both projects have been put on hold due to the civil unrest in Zimbabwe at this time. We send well wishes to our friends in Zimbabwe and hope to return there in the Spring of 2010, lord willing.
May and June of 2008 were spent traveling through Ecuador. We ventured out with a team of 6 artists (4 actors, 1 director and 1 playwright) to learn about Ecuador and create a play. "Flight 360" follows our experiences as we meet people from unique cultures along each step of the journey. We will return in the summer of 2009 with an outstanding 128 students, 8 professional directors, 1 professional technical director, and 1 professional actor/teacher for ACTion: Ecuador to work on developing the Quilotoa Community Arts Center and learn to create a short play in only 3-weeks.

DAT has been an amazing experience so far, and I’m happy to have spent so much time working in Zimbabwe and Ecuador, empowering voices, meeting new people and learning about myself and other cultures. I’ve blossomed into a person who cares about the world and it’s people.

This is who I was always meant to be, and I’m glad I finally found out!
